African Community In Lowell Remembers Senator Kennedy
Rally will be on Saturday, August 29, 2009

LOWELL, MA. AUGUST 28_The African Cultural Association (A.C.A.) as an umbrella association and in conjunction with all individual African national associations will hold a grand rally to honor the life and service of the great public servant and senator, the late Edward Kennedy.

The rally is planned to take place tomorrow Saturday, August 29, 2009, at the grand pavilion in front of the City Hall, named after the late senator’s brother, President John F. Kennedy, will begin at 11 a.m. with an opening prayer by the Rev. Jerry Manyongai.

There will be commemorative speeches from various people, in the community, whose lives the late senator touched.

As the news of the passing of the “Lion of the Senate” was breaking yesterday, people were in utter shock and disbelief. One of those, the President of the A.C.A., Mr. Fru Nkimbeng started working the phones among his board members to hatch a plan on what to do to show respect for this stalwart who spoke for the lowly and underprivileged.

What he heard was almost a melodic song from all the people one after another, how they had individual
experiences with the senior senator from Massachusetts.

Ben Opara, a candidate for the Lowell City Council has earlier in the day, upon hearing the news, called off all preplanned campaign activities in honor and as a mark of cultural respect for the senator, who he claims, touched him personally.

Commenting on the possibility of inclement weather, Mr. Nkimbeng fiercely asserted that what might be perceived as inclement weather, may be a sign that the honorable statesman has been accepted triumphantly into heaven and happily reunited with his two brothers, father, mother and sister.

The event will be concluded with traditional drum beats from Ghana, a rare honor only accorded chieftains and royalty.
