Scores nominated for Ajabu African Awards, gala tickets on final sale
Dr. George Njoroge, a Kenyan researcher in New Jersey whose research recently led to the dicovery of a medicine to treat the Hepatitis-C virus. Dr. Njoroge will be among those honored at the Ajabu African Awards for his ground breaking achievements as an African immigrant from Sub-Sahara Africa.

WOBURN, Mass._ The nominations are now over! A special thank you to all of you, who logged on or called us to nominate people who have done a lot for the African community; among those nominated by readers who responded to the nomination request were Dr. George Njoroge, the Kenyan researcher the Kenyan researcher who recently stunned the world by discovering a medicine to treat the Hepatitis-C virus.
From Dr. Njoroges research, the anti-HCV viral drug Victrelis™ (also known as Boceprevir or SCH 503034) has been discovered – this medicine was approved by FDA on May 13th 2011 as the first-in-class therapy for HepC treatment and is currently in the market.
Other notable academic giants in the African community included a new crop of young doctors and researchers Dr. Stanley Kimani, a 31 year old Kenyanhas a PHD in cancer Biology and is currently working with Harvard Medical School at the Mass General Hospital in Boston , Dr. Richard Mutyabule, a 36 Ugandan doctor who is also working with the Dana Faber Brigham & Women Cancer Research Center, an affiliate of Harvard University.
Dr. Julius Tabe, a 39 year old Cameroonian doctor who has teamed up with a Kenyan entrepreneur in a new medical services startup company based in Lawrence Mass., Maestro Outreach Medical Services LLC, was also nominated.
The 2011 Ajabu Africa awards event sought nominations from the African community for those people who have gone an extra mile to help in the building or inspiring the African community in USA and make their lives better in 4 different categories; Academia, Youth Achievement, Sports, Business, Charity and Entertainment.
Several charitable organizations were also nominated for their extra-ordinary work in their respective African communities including the Gwanga Mujje, UNAA and Twegaite Boston from the Ugandan community, the Africans for Improved Access (AFIA), CAMSOC, a Cameroonian community organization, The African Cultural Association of Lowell, One Home Many Hopes (OHMH) an American charity that has made efforst to reach out to the Kenyan commmunity in Boston as they continue to fund a girls orhanage in Mombasa, Kenya, the Kenya Sistahs, an African American group with humanitarian activities in Kenya among others.
Winners in each category will be announced during the Ajabu Africa Awards Gala night to be held at the Hilton Boston Hotel in Woburn Mass next week on Sunday, August 21, 2011.
The event will kick off at 5.30 pm with a business networking session that will last until 7pm when dinner and gala activities start.
Among the activities to take place include a buffet dinner, an African fashion show short speeches by Award winners as well as music entertainment by the renowned Kenyan DJ Fresh and the legendary Touch & Soul band from the Ugandan community.
The fashion show will feature among others the reigning Miss Uganda USA, Tronella Nagadya and Miss African New York, Angela Maina from Kenya and other equally competitive young ladies who will be trending in fashions by Candidate Clothing, a New Jersey based African owned fashion company.
