Another Kenyan Man Kills Wife in Kansas, Commits Suicide

From the wires , Ajabu Africa News , Posted October 9, 2010

HUTCHINSON, Kan- Barely two weeks after a Kenyan was charged with the brutal murder of his wife in Atlanta, Georgia, another Kenyan man was being sought by authorities in connection with the death of his wife in Kansas, but seemed to have already taken a long interstate journey to New Mexico where media reports indicate he committed suicide.

According to the Wichita Eagle news website quoting the Hutchinson News website, Wilfrida N. Masabah's body was found in a house she shared with her husband in Hutchinson, Kansas last Wednesday afternoon after at least two neighbors reported a disturbance at the home.

The reports said that the woman had filed for divorce from her husband, Hoseah Masabah Kaminja in August this year.

But as police searched for Kaminja in connection with the death, media reports from the AP through the Eye Witness news website, KOB.com, indicated that the estranged husband was found dead in his car in the remote Southern New Mexico town of Las Cruces, over 700 miles from Kansas and only a few miles from the border between the US and Mexico.

According to the media reports, Hutchinson, Kan., police Capt. Troy Hoover said that an autopsy was ordered but the death appears to be suicide.

However, police confirmed that the body found was that of Kaminja , who was being sought by authorities in Kansas in connection with the death of his wife.

The shocking deaths added to the growing list of Kenyans in the US who have killed their spouses or roommates.

The murder is the fourth of its kind in recent history where a Kenyan man has been accused of brutally killing his wife in the US.

Two weeks ago, Fredrick Gathoga, 41, of Palmetto, a few miles form Atlanta, Georgia , was arrested after his wife, Naomi Mwangi, was found dead on the kitchen floor of their Carlton Point drive home.

And during  the  just concluded summer of this year, a Kenyan young man was charged in the state of New Hampshire with the killing of his girlfriend and mother to his son, while 3 months ago, another Kenyan was sentenced to life in prison without parole for a similar killing of his wife that took place in 2007.

Also this year, in another unrelated incident, a Kenyan woman in Alabama was charged with multiple stabbing to death of her roommate.

It is a situation that has fuelled debate within the Kenyan community in the USA whether the murder of spouses after disagreements is a general reflection of the community they now find themselves in or it is a particular problem with the spouses of Kenyan immigrant families in America as a result of change in culture.
