Atlanta was treated to a great empowerment session yet again by Association of Kenyan Professionals in Atlanta (AKPA) on March 26th 2011. The event was tailor made to specifically help Kenyans with their careers.
During the three hour seminar, Kenyan Professionals were given tips and ideas of how to achieve an edge in the a very competitive cooperate environment.
Topics ranged from getting noticed at work place to how to find the missing pieces of the puzzle needed to achieve success.
The keynote speaker, Mr. David Karangu, told an attentive crowd that one can use other people’s money to make money. He told of his story of how he started and positioned himself for success by partnering with the right people.
David spoke of how he has always operated like a train instead of operating like a car. “A car can drive anywhere but a train has to stay on track and it can’t afford to be distracted or lose focus,” said the renowned Kenyan American businessman who owns one of the most successful car dealerships in Atlanta, GA.
Another speaker who caught the participants’ attention was Mrs. Wandia Mbuvi, a senior vice president with CITI who gave a wonderful presentation. She spoke of the finding the missing puzzle to achieve significant success.
She painted the picture in her presentation using sport analogy saying each one had a part to play. ‘This is very critical for people who are still working on their careers trying to find their place in the bigger picture.
Other speakers included Mr. Fredrick Gituku and Ms. Olivia Urling. Mr.Gituku of IBM Software Group told of how one can get noticed and leave a mark in the co-operate world. While Ms Olivia Urling CEO of Global Empowerment Group took the group through self-testing of the art of creating the life one deserves.
Ms. Bower (new chair) and her team are embarking on a reach out program to all the Kenyans in Atlanta.
Under leadership of former chairs, Mark Thaiya, Jean Adero, Stephen Kihumba and Cecilia Makundi, the AKPA has made a mark by mentoring and helping Kenyans advance in their careers.
