BOSTON, Ma_Anthony Mulongo is a man on a mission. A mission to create awareness on some of the problems facing young girls in Kenya, hoping that his message and involvement in being part of the solution, will spur you into action.
Anthony, who was a successful journalist, was moved to give up his home and a lucrative career in order to rescue, house and educate girls living on the streets of Kenya.
His dream to build a home for them birthed Mudzini Kwetu meaning ‘our home’ in the south coastal region of Kenya. Today, there are 32 girls who know this as their only home.
Thomas Keown, a volunteer visited Mudzini Kwetu in August 2007 and wrote a column about his experience for the 'Metro' newspaper in Boston and New York. So powerful was the response among readers and friends that "One Home Many Hopes"(www.onehomemanyhopes.org), was established in November 2007.It is the fundraising arm of Mudzini Kwetu.
In an interview with Ajabu Africa, Tracy Wemett who is the PR Chair of the organization said she has known of Anthony since 2007. Asked why she chose to get involved with the organization, she said “I’m no different than the young girls we rescue.
None of us are. There is no reason that I wasn’t born to parents who would die while I was young or who would discard me out of despair and poverty. And there is no reason why I wasn’t born into a life circumstance that narrowed my choice of survival to the ugly life of selling myself for food or a place to sleep.
Anthony Mulongo, a Kenyan man full of Humanitarian compassion, now visiting Boston
Our girls in Kenya were born into such situations, but because of the kindness and love of everyone involved with One Home Many Hopes, these girls are now in a family that is secure and loving and places a value on them and their needs.”
Come meet Anthony and other volunteers this week in Boston, listen to inspiring stories like Tracy’s and learn how you too can make a difference. You can also visit the main website (www.onehomemanyhopes.org for more information.
