Unite for hunger funds drive, Dr. Kimatu urges
Press release by The Rev. Dr. Joseph Kimatu, posted October 19, 2011
WORCESTER_Mass.,_ The Chairman of Diaspora Kenyans for Hungry Kenyans, on behalf of the Joint Group that is organizing for this event, invites all Kenyans in New England and beyond to our Saturday, October 22, 2011 Mashujaa Day Celebrations at Holy Name Central High School, 144 Granite St, Worcester, MA 01614. The highlight and central focus of the celebrations is Fundraising for the millions of Kenyans faced by hunger in the northern and eastern parts of Kenya.
Our target is to realize over KES 10,000,000.00 (US $100,000.00).
Members of NEKA, members of KAPF, all churches, all civil societies, all business entrepreneurs, all Diaspora Councils, individuals and all of us collectively, you are requested to attend and participate in this noble undertaking. All Kenyans of good-will, let us prove to the world that we are really practical when we say we are our brother’s/sister’s keepers. Remember the story of the Good Samaritan. This is our moment, this is our time, to display and demonstrate the Kenyan spirit "together we can overcome any obstacle that stands in our way." This is our first ever Mashujaa Day celebration. Let us all be heroes on this day as we assemble to help our people to get through this extended famine. It is not fun to be hungry. It is however, heroic to feed the hungry. Heroes stand for others!
We have many dignitaries both local and international who will grace this event. Our sponsors will have time to display their trades. MoneyGram, Ajabu Media, 3Dimensions Health Care, Big 5 Safaris Boutique, Royale Signature (suits), Marions International (International calling), Hope for Africa, Samrack, Poapay, Doubles Express (M-pesa), Global Safaris (travel consultant), SG Travel International, Salon De Afrique (hair stylist), Spring-Star Consulting (event marketing), amongst others, have gladly come forward to sponsor the event.
More sponsors are still being accepted and Kenyans are encouraged to contact us before Friday, October 21.

The famous Picha Mitaani troupe will also show pictures and video clips of what we have never seen nor been told about what happened after “election gone awry” of 2008 in Kenya. You must be there to see. Kenyan artists and church choirs will also present. It will be both fun and business.
Leaders of all Kenyan organizations are requested to pass information and invitation to their members. If as Kenyans this does not unite us, nothing will. Our proof of leadership comes from how we handle crises. Hunger is a crisis of very high magnitude.
We need to come forward and stand up to be counted. This not about tribe, race, religion or any kind of orientation, it is about giving food, saving lives and giving hope to a people in need. If as leaders we really stand for and represent peoples’ interest and not merely leading for self-glory and aggrandizement, we cannot afford to miss this chance to demonstrate that fact. We also request our Kenyan leaders in WA, DC and the UN offices to give us their support and presence.
We believe you are there for us even as you represent Kenya’s interests abroad. We constitute some of the constituency abroad and would love to serve the Kenya you represent. This project is one of the many we will do to alleviate the suffering of the poor and marginalized communities in Kenya and elsewhere on the globe.
It is a challenge for us all. It can be seen as a belated endeavor, but better late than never. The help we give is what matters the most and the lives we touch will never be the same. Let us not rest until everyone who is hungry has at least a morsel. It depends on you and me! Come One Come All!
