WAKEFIELD Mass., As the Massachusetts gubernatorial campaign approached the home stretch, Gov. Deval Patrick took a bus tour around the state yesterday, and in so doing, spotted a crowd of Africans gathered outside a church in Wakefield. The governor immediately decided to go into the church to find out what was going on.
The development caught the crowd gathered in the church to celebrate 30 years of marriage between Bishop Joshua Wambua and his wife, Dorcas ,
by surprise.
“Guys guys guys, the governor of Massachusetts is here”, Owen Njuguna , an usher at the event and a member of the Rapture Harvest Mission International church, rushed to the front of the church , grabbed the microphone and made the unexpected announcement.
According to an Ajabu reporter on the scene, when the governor entered the church , he requested to be given 5 minutes to address the people.
However, the crowd roared back and said "take 30 minutes or as much as you want", and
immediately broke into wild song and dance with everyone jostling for position to take a picture with the governor.
Njuguna, together with the master of ceremonies, Peter Thuo Karugu and the host of the event, Bishop Joshua Wambua, welcomed the governor to address the crowd that was largely composed of Kenyans.
The governor asked the crowd to make sure they turn up to tomorrow's elections and vote for him to give him a chance to finish all the programs he has put in place that are making Massachusetts to be the leading state in the US in job creation as the country emerges from a deep recession.
Among other guests who attended the colorful wedding anniversary was Rev. James E. Collins and his wife, Brenda Collins of the Eagle Heights church in Revere, Massachusetts.

The heated campaigns in the USA have become a captivating phenomena for the African community who are now learning how to use the power of the vote rather than violence to hold their leaders accountable to their words and actions.
In the US, leaders aspiring for political posts are usually put under the microscope by opponents, the media and other interested organizations who scrutinize everything they ever did in their lives, including personal lives, before they are voted to be fit for office.
Deval Patrick has consistently defended his record , exemplified a great personal life and has gone out of the way to reach out to all communities including the hard to get African immigrant community.
Gov. Patrick has also lived and worked in over 14 different countries in Africa including Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Ethiopia among others.
Massachusetts has about 76,000 registered voters who if fired up enough and appear at the polls, could make a huge difference to outcome for any candidate they may choose to vote for between the time the sun comes up and goes down tomorrow, November 2, 2010.
