LOWELL, Mass. , FEBRUARY 19_ The always kind Kenyan community once again came together recently and raised $9,600 for an ailing member who has decided to return to the motherland.

The fundraising event held on Sunday February 7th, 2010 at St. Stephens Church in Lowell for Mr. Peter Maina Kamau attracted hundreds of well-wishers and believers.

Kamau is a long time member of the Saint Stephen church, a mainly Kenyan community church, and has been ill for a long time. He was also a long time member of father's union, and was involved in counting the tithes and offerings.

Peter Maina Njoroge aka baba Kamau.

Due to health challenges, Kamau has decided to go back to Kenya to be with his wife and loved ones. He doesn’t intend to return to America.

Kamau, 62, is a father of four and hails from Muchatha area of  Kiambaa Division in the Kenyan central province. He has been in America since 2002.

According to Revered Kimohu, the Pastor of St. Stephens church, Mr. Peter Maina Kamau has had a long relationship with the church.

“Most people are aware of his work as a church maintenance man,” said Rev. Kimohu, who oversaw the fundraising. “We are here because of that God who gives. We are not giving Kamau because he deserves it, it is because of God's love,” added the pastor.

The money raised will be used to buy Mr. Peter Maina a one way-ticket to Nairobi, Kenya,  as well as buying him the necessary medicine to last him at least a year.

Having undergone one surgery Maina will undergo a final one before he heads home.
