E-Verify passes house committee

WASHINGTON -- The House Judiciary Committee approved the Legal Workforce Act Wenesday, legislation that would require all employers to use the E-Verify electronic employment verification system.

The bill was sponsored by Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, and was approved by the committee on a party-line 22-13 vote. Critics of the bill have said the database is ridden with errors and would cost hundreds of thousands of legal American workers to lose their jobs.
