Jamhuri Day Celebrations Planned in Boston

BOSTON, Mass., _ “Kenyans have done very well in their respective groupings in the past, but it’s now time for all of us in the Diaspora to come together and do better”, said Bishop Joshua Wambua of Rapture Harvest Mission International church while announcing a 2010 Jamhuri Day celebration to be held at the Umass Boston on Sunday, December 12.
Inviting Kenyans to the Kenya’s Independence Day celebration, Bishop Wambua said that Kenyans have operated independent of their government in the USA despite having an Embassy in Washington DC that is there to represent and serve them.
He added that it is now time to involve the Kenyan Embassy in working together with Kenyans in the Diaspora to achieve various goals.
To achieve this noble goal, an Ambassador’s council was formed recently when the new Kenyan Ambassador to the US, Hon. Elkanah Odembo visited New England.
This council has now taken the onus to organize their first Jamhuri day celebration in Boston that will take place in one week's time.
“We can and have survived as small groups but with unity and the government in place, the sky is the limit so let’s come together and build one another up”, said Bishop Wambua during an interview with Ajabu Africa News.
During the planned celebrations, Ambassador Odembo and Governor Deval Patrick of Massachusetts are expected to be the main guests of honor.
Among the activities and performances planned to take place during the celebrations include the annual Christmas cantata by KCFA Boston, a gospel Jam session by DJ fresh, an interdenominational prayer, speeches from various church leaders and businessmen as well as recognition awards to various Kenyans in New England.
The celebrations will end with an after party entertainment session by DJ Sam, DJ OnPoint and DJ Sture.
According to Bishop Wambua, “this is the beginning of a united Diaspora front that may ultimately bring the desired change here and back home to address tribalism, corruption, plight of students and many more challenges”.
He asked Kenyans to come in big numbers so that they may “reason together with open minds geared toward the new constitution, a new Kenya and a new beginning”.
Organizers at the Ambassador’s council say that the celebration will kick off promptly at 2pm and assured Kenyans that there will be plenty of parking spots so no one needs to worry about their vehicles.
