Kenyan Young man dies in Baltimore, family appeals for funds.

BALTIMORE, Md, NOVEMBER 4_The cruel hand of death has robbed the Kenyan community in Baltimore, Maryland another young person, only a few months after two Kenyans in their early twenties passed away in January this year, and a 35 year young lady who passed away in December, 2008.

Andrew Ndungu Muchai, 25, passed away in his apartment in Baltimore, several days after undergoing a surgical operation on Thursday, October 22.

According to his family in Baltimore, Muchai had been having sleeping problems and ended having a tonsillectomy procedure which went well and was discharged from hospital the following day, Friday Oct. 23.

However, on Saturday night Oct 24th, the late Muchai passed away alone in his apartment.

 On a telephone call to Ajabu Africa.com, family sources indicated that Muchai had spent the day on Saturday with a female friend and he seemed was okay.

 “But in the evening, the friend went to buy him some fast food and upon return, Muchai appeared unresponsive. The friend and neighbor called 911 and he was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival”, said a family spokesman, Rev. Dr. Paul Mukundi of Faith and Grace Worship Center in Baltimore (Website).

The late Muchai was the son of Mr. Jared Muchai Ndungu and Ms. Virginia Makumi (Mama Makumi); brother of Christine Wacheke Muchai, Daniel Makumi Muchai all of Baltimore Maryland, and Eddah Wangui of Mombasa Kenya.

“We are very devastated by this death, and our prayers go out to the family and friends”, said Elizabeth Nyawira, a member of the funeral organizing committee.

A fundraising was held by Kenyans in Baltimore at the faith United Methodist church on Harford road last Sunday where $10,000 was raised to aid the final expenses. The family intends to bury the body of the late young man in the US but is running short of funds.

“Although we raised $10,000 last Sunday, we are still short of the required amount to do the burial, said Rev. Mukundi .  We urge anyone out there who may wish to help this family with funds to contact us as soon as possible”, he added.

Friends and relatives are meeting daily at 7pm at 6404 Laurelton Ave. Baltimore, MD, 21214.The family needs prayers and financial assistance to offset funeral expenses.

A wake has been planned to take place on Friday, November 6th, at the Vaughn C. Greene Funeral Service on 4905 York Rd, Baltimore , MD 21212 .

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 7th at the Kingdom Worship Center , 6419 York Road , Towson , Maryland 21212 followed by the burial at the Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens , 5598 Trumps Mill Road, Baltimore , MD 21206 .
