Kenyan man seeks help after deadly accident
The Kenyan community in Lowell, Mass is appealing for financial help to assist a young Kenyan man facing multiple charges after he was involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident that claimed the lives of an elderly couple.
According to the Lowell Sun, the accident occurred on Saturday, Aug 1 as Geoffrey Kamau Wahome, a Lowell resident was driving on I-395. His Nissan maxima hit an elderly couple from Texas. The couple was changing a tire on the breakdown lane. Recap full story here.
A fund raising drive in aid of Wahome is scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at the Saint Stephen Anglican church in Lowell.
The chairman of the fund raising committee, Stephen Njuguna appealed to all Kenyans and friends to come to the aid of Wahome. “I am humbly appealing to all Kenyans and friends to come and assist this young man at this trying moment in his life,” said Njuguna.

The pastor of Saint Stephens’s church in Lowell, Rev. Samuel Kimohu, also sent a passionate appeal to all Kenyans and friends to come and assist Wahome pay his legal bills.
“As a result of this very unfortunate accident, Wahome and his family are facing a daunting legal and financial burden and we are appealing to the Kenyan community to come together as we always do when one of us is facing a problem,” said the priest.
Wahome’s father, Pastor Gerald Wahome serves as a lay-reader at the Saint Stephen’s church.
Neither the son nor the father could give any details of the accident as the case was before court and police investigations were still going.
The young Wahome has featured many times in the Lowell newspapers especially the Lowell sun for his excellence at the cross country race competitions.
He has competed vigorously for his former high school, Lowell High.
Wahome has been studying hard with a goal of eventually enrolling in a pharmacy school.
