Lowell Resident scoops top Anglican Church post
by Harrison Maina, AjabuAfrica.com

LOWELL, Mass., FEBRUARY 11_The Kenyan Anglican church, Kavoko Diocese, in Kitui District is set to ordain a long time Lowell resident as a deacon in one weeks time.

This comes one month after another church in Kitui, CIC, ordained another Lowell resident, Gerald Wahome, as their first missionary in America.

Mr. Justus Munyasya, who has been living in Lowell since he immigrated to the United States in 2002, has subsequently traveled to Kenya for the ceremony to take place at the Kavoko Parish archdeaconry, in his home village of Katuloni location in Kitui District.

The auspicious ceremony will be presided over by Bishop Rt. Reverend Josephat Vundi Mule of Kitui diocese on Saturday, February 20.

To prepare and get fine tuned for the new divine appointment, Munyasya will attend a 4 day retreat at the same church from Tueday, February 16 to Friday February 19.

Justus Munyasya, who is set to be appointed as a church missionary by a Kenyan Anglican church next week.

Speaking to AjabuAfrica.com, prior to his departure, Munyasya said that he has a deep conviction to fulfill the covenant between him and his God.

“I am looking forward to serve the lord more than ever before in his new capacity as a deacon,” said Munyasya, a married father of two girls and one boy.

Before relocating to USA, Munyasya served as a church elder in Kavoko Anglican church and the Redeemed Gospel church, both in Kitui District. During this time, Munyasya preached and taught the good news as well as helping in administrative duties under the vicar in charge of Kavoko parish.

Later on, Munyasya was appointed chairman of men’s fellowship in Kitui diocese and served as a Synod member for several years under the former archbishop Nzimbi, who was at the time serving as the Bishop of Kitui.

As the chairman of development issues at the archdeaconry, Munyasya led the way in implementing various projects for the benefit of all the parishioners. He still serves as the development chairman in Kavoko parish, a position that requires him to travel occasionally from the USA to Kenya and back.

Here in the US, Munyasya has been involved in preaching and teaching the gospel in various churches on invitation basis, including the Saint Stephen’s church, PCEA Ushindi church, both in Lowell, Pelham Pentecostal ministries, New Hampshire, and Christ is the Answer Church (CITAC) in North Chelmsford.

The soon to be deacon attended Kangaru High school in Embu and Kitui high school for his Advanced  high school ( A-Levels) education. He later joined Mombasa polytechnic where he graduated with a Diploma, then a Higher National Diploma in mechanical engineering, which is equivalent to a Bachelors of Science in the Kenyan education system.

During a transatlantic phone call to Rt. Reverend Bishop Mule, the Bishop who will preside over the ordination in Kenya, Ajabu Africa learned that the diocese of Kavoko is looking forward to having their first ever missionary to the USA.

“We are so glad that Munyasya will be our representative in the US to serve the spiritual needs of the community,” said Bishop Mule.

A long time friend and spiritual father to Munyasya, Evangelist Daniel Mumo from Ohio, who was in massachusetts to see his frind off to Kenya, said that Munyasya has continued to portray his spiritual talent and zeal for many years as a man of God.

“He is a servant ready for an ordained ministry,” said Evangelist Mumo.

As he prepares for the hard work ahead of him, Munyasya believes that God never delays our call for service even in old age. The 53 year old man of God quoted the book of 1st Thessalonians 5:24, saying “he who calls you is faithful and will do it.”
