WORCESTER, Mass,JUNE 23 --An eighty year old   grandmother raced to join dozens of women, men and small children on the fabulously decorated red and white set at the Divine Gospel Ministries sanctuary in Worcester Mass. She then proceeded to rock back and forth with her feeble hands cupped ready to receive the holy blessings coming down through worship music.

Sandwiched in dozens of adoring fans and other local gospel artists, the visiting gospel phenomenon wiggled his way closer to the old lady, cooed more into the microphone, retching up the lyrics a notch higher. The lady rocked some more.

The divine connection was on. Everybody was smiling and shaking their bodies like never before.

That was the scene during the final performance of Joseph Muruaru last week at the Worcester Gospel Fest during which Sarah Mbogo and Lucy Muthumbi aka Wasaimo and KIC ministries (formerly known as CSI) also performed to the delight of over 100 worshippers.

Muruaru had been in the US for a tour that took him to California and Kansas on the west, and then to Massachusetts on the East. Due to public demand, he had to reschedule his departure flight just so as to perform a last show of the season at the Worcester Gospel Fest.

Muruaru had staged another show in Worcester the previous week at the All Saint’s Anglican Church on May street.

The all day Worcester Gospel Fest was hosted by Rev. Christopher and Frasiah Kamau of Divine Gospel Ministries.

Dr. Grace Kariuki of Amazing Grace Ministries based in Warrenton, Virginia was the guest speaker.

During her sermon, Dr. Kariuki thanked the Divine Gospel Ministries for the financial and moral support they gave to the Amazing Grace Ministries Organization several months ago when Divine Gospel Ministries arranged a fund raiser for her.

The funds drive netted over $4000 that was used to clear the then over due bills at the Amazing Grace Orphanage Home in Nairobi Kenya.

“The electricity bill the Amazing Grace Orphanage  had accumulated so much that the electric company had already sent out disconnection notices. We had so many other backed up bills including water and food that if it was not for this church, I don’t know where we would be now”, said Dr. Kariuki.

Amazing Grace Orphanage houses over 30 young orphaned children ranging from 3 years to 13 years old most of whom lost their parents to the dreaded HIV/AIDS disease.

“Prayers and treatment for most of our kids who got HIV / AIDS from their past parents have helped them get healed. “Recently, the kids were tested three different times and each time, they turned out HIV negative”, Dr. Kariuki said to the applause by the worshippers.

Rev. Dr. Kariuki, who holds a doctorate from Life Christian University and Seminary (LCUS)., asked the church and other well wishers to continue supporting the Amazing children orphanage in whatever way possible.

She said that the orphanage is also helping over 600 windowed women by educating them on ways to generate some extra income to counter biting poverty as well as take care of their own children.

Due to lack of resources, the Amazing Grace Ministries heavily rely on volunteer labor, which can not be predicted to last for a long period.

“We would highly appreciate frequent monthly contributors to help us keep up with our bills. “ If you re out there and you would be kind enough to help us in any little way possible, please contact us, Dr. Grace urged.

Rev. Kamau, the host, promised that his church would do all within its power to keep the children fed. “Those kids shall never go hungry, we believe that the Lord shall provide and Divine Gospel Ministries will do its share of the job”, said Rev. Kamau.

The event also served as an opportunity for a local well known Gospel artist Lucy Muthumbi to shoot footage for her upcoming DVD titled Kautaoiga.

Sarah Mbogo, Joseph Muruaru, KIC Ministries, Pastor Christopher and his wife, frashia all served as supporting cast in the DVD shoot.

To add more flavor to the gospel fest, Sarah Mbogo performed several of her hit songs with the most popular one, Double Portion, and bringing worshippers to their feet.

The chairman of the Divine Gospel Ministries church,Kamau Muthua, thanked all those who attended the event and asked the performers to keep visiting the church some more.

At the end of the fest, Muruaru thanked all the Kenyan pastors and fans who welcomed him to the US on his very successful tour. He promised to be back soon.
