WORCESTER Mass_ Hundreds of Kenyan dance fans swarmed a club in downtown Worcester last Saturday to catch a glimpse and dance to the beat and tune of the legendary “one man guitar band”.

The band comprises of   Mike Rua , populary known as the King of Mugithi as the only  guitarist, and one drummer. Together they perform X-rated Kikuyu cultural and contemporary music.

The show was strictly for adults only with high vigilance at the entrance to bar minors. Menacing bouncers manned the entrance to the sold out venue.

Amazed: A man stares at the Kenyans lining up at the entrance for the 'one man guitar' show

Rua is in the US for his first tour. Revelers started streaming in as early as 9.00 pm causing a near fiasco as late comers were barred entrance despite having paid.

“This is disastrous,” said a man who drove all the way from Boston for the show. “How can they tell me the place is full? Let them refund my money,” he said, although no one could verify his claims.

As they waited for the famed performer to appear, the large crowd comprising largely of middle age Kenyans entertained themselves to drinks.  Women easily outnumbered the men in the house.

However, their patience ended when the sole guitarist and his drummer arrived at around midnight, dressed in a scarlet red shirt, jeans and a baseball cap. Without mincing words, Rua   headed straight to the stage and kicked off to a loud applause.

The show that was held at a Worcester Club in Massachusetts attracted fans from all the cities in the Boston metro area.

Bumper to bumper: The club was fully packed

According to his local host DJ Peter Peezy, of Nai Entertainments, the show was a sell out with over 500 in attendance.

Rua is on a US tour that will take him through several States before flying to Germany.
