By Harry Ndeta, AjabuAfrica.com

NAIROBI, Kenya, JANUARY 25_International Evangelist Richard Roberts of Oral Roberts Ministries USA, has asked Parliamentary Select Committee on the Constitution (PSC) which resumes its sittings in Naivasha today ( Monday January 25, 2010, to ensure that life is safeguarded in the new constitution.

Dr. Roberts said Christianity is pro-life and urged Kenyans who are said to be over 80% Christian to ensure their laws recognize the inception of life at conception.
“I am a pro- life person and am totally against death. Life as the bible teaches us begins at inception,” he said at a news conference over the weekend.

Dr. Richards also opposed any moves to legislate same sex marriage in the constitution saying God created man and women to be united in holy matrimony.
.
Accompanied by his daughter Jordan, and the Redeemed Gospel Church Bishop Arthur Kitonga, the man of God asked Kenyans to tolerate each other’s religion saying both Muslims and Christians should work together. This was an apparent reference to the chaos that rocked Nairobi two weeks ago when Muslim youth took to the streets protesting the detention of a Jamaican Moslim cleric Al-Faisal.

The press conference on religious conflict resolution following the occurrence of a near clash between Kenyan Muslims and Kenyans of other faiths and the Presidential System as agreed by the PSC on the Draft Constitution could not have come at a better time.

The televangelist who has shipped in over 2 million shillings worth of assorted foodstuff, medicines and shoes to assist the poor and the sick, challenged Kenyan leaders to seize the opportunity and give Kenyans a new constitution that will not only address the social political issues, but also guarantee economic growth.

He asked the Kenyan government to clear a 8,000 shoe consignment currently being held at the port of Mombasa saying the shoes donated by good Samaritans in the US will go a long way into alleviating the suffering of those infested by jiggers.

“We have shipped in thousands of dollars worth of assorted foodstuffs to assist the needy in Kenya and we appeal to the government to free the 8000 shoe consignment to help those in need,” he said.
Richards said his ministries will be conducting medical camps in Huruma, Korogocho, Kayole and Kibera estates of Nairobi where doctors will attend to the sick and the needy in Nairobi’s most populous and poverty stricken areas.

In addition, the religious leader whose father presided over a huge prayer meeting in Nairobi in 1968, said all religious leaders of different faiths and ministries will hold a leaders meeting on Wednesday and Thursday morning.

He also appealed to all women to bring children to him for prayer saying the future of this country lies in them.

Dr. Richards said he expects miracles to happen within the week saying his invitation to the country by Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his wife and his meeting with Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka was God-planned.

Kitonga praised the televangelist for his healing powers saying the last time he visited Kenya and Kitui district in particular, saw a HIV aids woman healed from the disease.

Richards who was accompanied by his daughter, Jordan, said his humanitarian outreach which was founded by his late father Oral Roberts will continue supporting medical and food to the poor around the world.

The Oral Roberts Ministries, he said has already sent humanitarian assistance worth half a million dollars to the earthquake devastated Haiti.

He will be doing his Friday to Sunday afternoon crusades at Nairobi’s Uhuru Park grounds and has invited Kenyans to attend in large numbers.
