Despite many life challenges a Kenyan in North - Central Massachusetts joined the growing field of gospel music entertainers when she   released a powerful 10 track praise and worship CD.

Alice Maina, a mother of two, released Ciiraniro Ciama (true promises) at the Assemblies of God church in Leominster on June 27th. Dozens of fans, friends and family who attended heard a powerful testimony of miracles that has occured in Maina’s life as a result of her faith in God, which in turn inspired her to become a preacher, and now a gospel artist, so as to keep spreading the good news.

To Maina, among the most important miracles in her life was bearing two children in spite of doctor’s declaration that she would never bear any child going through 5 miscarriages.

The Cd,  done  in her native Kikuyu language has 10 tracks  rich  in  spiritual nourishment that will make listeners reflect on the word of God as it applies in their lives.

Maina becomes the recent addition in the string of gospel artists that have been releasing Dds and DVd’s , that both entertain listeners as well as draw them closer to their maker.

Assisted by an energetic group of colorfully dressed mothers who changed outfits with each song performed, and gyrating rhythmically, Maina proceeded to belt out lyrics that occasionally drew the fans to their feet in applause.

“This   is a very great way to praise the lord. I can’t believe these mothers can dance like this”, said one fan as the show progressed.

During the  introductory remarks before the music started, Maina’s sister, Jane Ndegwa , who  is a partner at the Safari café in Worcester, congratulated her for  persevering  extreme hardship for years as she struggled to write and produce the songs that were now being released as a  CD and DVD, just because the believed in herself.

She said that her sister had to work two jobs in a row while juggling between her children and studio time. “Many times I told myself that she was just inviting trouble for herself and our family with the entire struggle”, said Ndegwa.

“Alice is a good example of a person who believes in themselves. You have to believe in yourself even when people do not believe in you” the sister added.

Blessing the event with a brief word of God, the pastor of the Assemblies of God church in Leominster, Pastor Mark Boucher said that without Jesus, the CD and DVD that Alice has just produced would be just another CD and video.

“But with Jesus, this CD and video will bring forth fruit that will bring glory to the lord”

The event was well organized with fans treated to clips of Maina’s new DVD during the several interludes.

There were also several other guest gospel musicians who performed as guests in support of one of their own. They included including Liz Kariuki from Worcester and her two teenage daughters, who stole the spotlight from her mother, exciting fans with their vigorous dancing antics.

Others were Peris Mbaria from Lawrence, Carol Mbithi from Worcester and Elizabeth Mbugua, (Watony) from Lowell.

“I thank God for all these you who came to support me during this CD release, said Maina during brief remarks.  I hope that the songs will be a blessing to you all”, she added.

Maina, was a former teacher at the Marengeta Primary school in Kahawa West near Nairobi, and the Day Spring Academy, Ol-Kalou , Nyandarua, Kenya, before relocating to the US in 2004.

She said that she has gone though the wilderness and many hopeless situations in her spiritual journey but she always trusted in the lord to see her through and was eventually delivered.

A longtime preacher and an upcoming musician, Maina   preached briefly in the Swahili language with Pastor Dominic Nyutu interpreting in English, catching the attention of worshippers present.

She said that at one time, doctors had declared that she would never have children in her life as a result of gestational diabetes, a condition that occurs to many women during pregnancy, where their blood sugar rises to dangerous levels.

“But now, due to the God’s miracles in my life, I have two children, a 5 year old and a 7 year old”.

“In the desert, there are no friends. I have passed so much in life and God has taken me from the ground so that I can praise him and acknowledge him”, Maina told the crowd, encouraging them to have   enduring faith.

The event was also attended by several Kenyan pastors including Pastor Stanley Mungai of hosanna gospel church in Lowell, Pastor Samuel Kimohu of Saint Stephens’s church, Bishop David Kiboi from Kenya, and Pastor David Mbiraru from Worcester, Pastor Ben, Pastor Charles  Kihiko, Pastor Dorcas Karanja Pastor Cecilia Kiigi, Pastor Dominic Nyutu.

Worcester resident, Faith Mburu, served as the master of ceremonies assisted by Amos Wang'ombe.

The event   closed with a word a word of thanks by Pastor Stephen Mungai of the Jamhuri Gospel church in Worcester, followed by refreshments as fans purchased CD’s and DVD’s from the budding musician.
