NORTH CHELMSFORD, Mass.- JULY 18- As soon as a massive fundraiser to assist three young Kenyan men facing daunting immigration cases was over at the Christ is the answer church in North Chelmsford, Mass. last week, dozens of Kenyans streamed out of the church oblivious to the CD release event that was going to follow immediately.
The fundraiser, which netted well over $25,000, seemed to have been the main attraction of the many Kenyans men and women who walked away led by the youths, or else it must have been the age gap factor that caused the exodus.
However, that did not discourage or stop a 63 year old grandmother from Seattle, WA from living up her dream.
Displaying the mettle and immense faith in God that has seen her through tough situations for over five decades, Jane Munyua was determined to proceed with the CD release regardless of only a handful of Kenyans left behind in the church in her support.
It was a dream come true as the new addition to the Gospel musicians community was welcomed to the podium by the M.c , Rev. Joseph Waiyaki with the fans cheering wildly.
”I have always wanted to sing for God and I am glad that I am here finally releasing this CD. I hope it will bless you”, said Munyua excitedly.
Munyua said that she was glad to launch the CD which serves to fulfill one of her most important missions of her life; to spread the Gospel though the gift of music that God put in her.
Munyua, who proudly declared that she is a grandmother of five, released her long awaited 11 track Cd titled ‘Ndigiciria’ (Kikuyu for surround me), on Sunday, June 28th in front of a few dozen fans at the Christ is the Answer church.
“Amazingly Wamunyua’s music sounds better than most other gospel artists”, quipped one Kenyan lady in retrospect after listening to the new Cd. “People should buy a lot from her to hear this great effort she has put in”, the lady who did not want to be named continued.
Munyua had lived in Lowell, Mass. for over five years before recently relocating to Seattle, Washington.
She was poised and energetic for a 53 year old grandma as she belted out hit after hit in her native Kikuyu language.
She was joined on the stage by a battery of several other mothers and grandmothers all dressed in matching red dresses for the occasion and fired up to sing for Jesus.
“I am not even a grandmother, I am a great grandmother and still happy to here to support Wamunyua”, said one of the supporting singers. Mama Tony who said has about 10 great grandchildren.
“We have never seen such a grandmother doing what Wamunyua has done for God. Putting all those songs together and releasing a Cd is a major sacrifice, said Rev.Waiyaki, adding that some of the grandmothers on stage have seen even their fourth generation yet they were still dancing for the lord.
Munyua said she was glad to be back in Boston to release the Cd as a way to thank the people of Boston who have helped her go through some serious challenges in life and to conquer to the point of releasing a CD.

"I thank you all for supporting me and even coming for this launch, even if you are not many" said Munyua. "But above all, I thank the God who has given me the voice and strength to worship him", she added.
Delivering a short word of God during the event, Rev. Samuel Kimohu of Saint Stephen’s church praised Munyua for her concerted efforts at producing a gospel Cd that will certainly bless many.
Rev. Kimohu said that Gospel singers in our community deserve a lot of praise and support because they play a very important role in the well being of the community.
Singing brings togetherness in our community. It also helps people pledge allegiance to our God” said the pastor.
Rev. Kimohu said that there is power in music and that music can touch people everywhere.
He asked Kenyans to refrain from music piracy but buy the original music from our musicians as a way of supporting them.
The few Kenyans who were present at the event purchased copies of the new Cd, prompting the pastor of the Church, Rev. John Wachira to request people who may not have been there to place orders and bring the checks to Munyua later in good faith.
Munyua told the fans that the greatest way they could support her in her work is by purchasing the Cd for her. She plans to do a series of promotional tours across several states before heading back to Seattle to push on with life in the West.
Munyua caused laughter when she said she was glad to be in Boston for many years but she now loves Seattle more and nothing will make her to relocate back to Boston.
”Life in Seattle is easier, and you don’t know what you are missing. There are very many nice Kenyans there and the place is newer than here”, Munyua advised at the end of the show as she posed for pics with supporters.
