Kenyans in USA plan memorial service for the late Wangari Maathai

  Two days of national mourning took place in Kenya Thursday and Friday in honor of the fallen Kenyan Nobel prize laureate, Prof. Wangari Maathai with thousands of Kenyans joining the event in Nairobi, Mombasa and other cities across Kenya.

 At the same time, a memorial service has been organized to tale place tomorrow, Saturday October 1, by the Kenyan community in the state of North Carolina where the late icon was honored with a doctorate from the Meredith College.

 According to Dr. Joe Karogi, founder of the Kenyan Christian Fellowship in America (KCFA), the event will take place at the Jones Chapel located at the Meredith College, Raleigh, North Carolina tomorrow from 6-7pm.
 
  “As a Kenya Community in Raleigh /Durham/Cary/ etc area we are planning to memorialize and celebrate her life this coming Saturday at Meredith College, Raleigh, and North Carolina. While Prof Wangari visited the RTP area 2009 she was honored with a doctorate at Meredith College,” said Dr. Karogi in an email distribution to Ajabu Africa News.

Dr. Karogi asked all Kenyans and friends in the area to attend the event which will be open to the public.
