WALTHAM, Mass.,_The new speaker of the Ugandan Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has urged all the Basoga and Ugandans in the Diaspora to invest in Uganda to promote development in their mother land.

Kadaga said this while giving her key note address as the Chief Guest at the 3rd Basoga Twegaite Convention that took place last weekend at the Westin Hotel in Waltham Massachusetts US.

“We want you to unite and invest in Uganda so that you can bring back the glory that was in Busoga and Uganda. An organization like this can help provide a voice for Busoga and Uganda with the additional voice of MPs from our region.”

She added that the organization could help move forward the problems, which were faced by Busoga, to the Executive and the President.

Madam Rebecca Kadaga , the new speaker of the Ugandan Parliament

The Busoga region is located on the eastern side of Uganda near the border with Kenya.

The region’s major city is Jinja, known around east Africa as a heavily industrial town that among other things  has produced electricity for Uganda and left surpluses for export to  it’s neighbors especially Kenya.

Kadaga said that this could also help Busoga share the ‘National cake’, saying that there was need to improve on the education system, health, and family values among other things.

She thanked the folks in the Diaspora who sent money to Uganda saying that it has helped people there but advised them to send it to the community as a whole whereby it could   help do more development in the region of Busoga than helping an individual.

“When you do send money to the community as an organization it can help out to develop the region of Busoga and Uganda as a whole, instead of doing it as an individual then we can return the glory of Busoga.”

She urged all the Basoga to come together regardless of their political or religious affiliations.
Kadaga said that the need to invest in Busoga would help promote and strengthen the region through the Microfinance system, and empowering sustainable programs for the community.

Patrick Uganda an official from the Ugandan Embassy in the US said that the government of Uganda encouraged Ugandans in the Diaspora to contribute to national development through income, and investment among other things.
