Opposition camp plans investment meeting to sabotage conference
By Eva Nabawanuka

WALTHAM, Mass, JULY 29 __The Uganda North America Association president Lt. Frank Musisi has launched a massive campaign aimed at making him win a second term in office.

The association, which brings together Ugandans living in North America, will hold its annual conference in Chicago, USA from September 4 – 6 September 2009. It is during the same conference that new office bearers will be elected.

Talking to AjabuAfrica.com, the out-going association president, who is also a US army reserve, Lt. Musisi called on Ugandans in the Diaspora to join the struggle to fight corruption from the association.

The flamboyant army officer said that some of his opponents like Flex Kabuye and Moses Wilson are being used by the NRM Party to bribe voters.

Efforts to get a comment from Kabuye were futile as he was reported to be in Uganda mobilising support.

"Kabuye and Moses are sponsored by the ruling party in Kampala and are busy using tax payers money to register and buy tickets for voters while our sisters and brothers in Kumi, Soroti are dying of hunger. As someone seeking for the second term, these are some of the issues we want to fight," he said.

He further revealed that the ruling party in Kampala has organized a similar function in Chicago in the name of the Uganda Investment Authority so that they can sabotage the UNAA conference and elections.

“I strongly condemn this act. This is what we are fighting for. We should not politicize UNAA. The association should be for unity and development but not for partisan politics.” He said.

Musis is urged all Ugandans especially those from northern Uganda, to go back home and reconstruct their area which has been at war for over 20 years now.

“I physically visited the camps in Gulu, Amuru, Dokolo and Soroti and found out that there is a need to rehabilitate, resettle refugees, and reconstruct these areas. I therefore call upon all Ugandans especially those people from the north to help in the cause," the UNAA boss said.

The soldier said all this can be done by the local leaders, Ugandans and the central government under the existing development projects like NUSAF.

Musisi also said that there is a need for input from doctors and engineers and Ugandans in the Diaspora for these “dreams” to be realized.

The officer said that last June, he met with congress members Russ Siegel and Brownsburg at the Capital Hill to see how they can help in the resettlement process of the people in northern Uganda, a region that has been in war for over 20 years.

Musisi’s campaign manager in Massachusetts, Francis Nkuusa told Ajabuafrica.com that everything will be done 6to re-elect Lt. Musisi so that he is given more time to complete his development programs in the interest of all Ugandans in the Diaspora.

He urged folks being given money by people in the other camps to take it but vote for the right candidate, who according to Nkuusa is Lt. Musisi. “We can not allow school drop-outs to lead us, he said.

Lt. Musisi is currently visiting several states in a drive aimed at canvassing for support needed for his reelection. ENDS
