US Vice President Biden concludes his trip to Kenya and heads to SA

NAIROBI, Kenya_Visiting US vice President Joe Biden finally left Kenya en-route to South Africa where he is scheduled to attend the official opening of the 2010 FIFA World cup finals.
Vice President Joe Biden, his wife Dr. Jill Biden and grand-daughter arrived in Nairobi on Monday June 7th 2010 and have been busy with a tight schedule of meeting-after-meeting.
Biden, who set foot at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (KICC) as his second stop on a week-long trip to Egypt, Kenya, and South Africa spent 3 full days in Obama’s ancestral land.
While in Kenya the Biden met with key leaders in Kenya, including Kenyan President Kibaki and Kenyan Prime Minister Odinga. In addition to discussing a range of bilateral issues, Biden addressed US and Kenya shared interests in peace and stability in the region, particularly in Sudan and Somalia.
Tuesday June 8, 2010 saw the Vice President and Dr. Biden visit the August 7th Memorial Park and lay a wreath in remembrance of 1998 US embassy bombing in Nairobi. The visit was open press event but tight security was set up just to ensure that nothing is left to change.

Later in the day, the Vice President paid Kenya’s Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Kenneth Marende a courtesy call. He also met with the Reform Caucus of Parliamentarians who have been instrumental in the constitutional reform agenda.
On Wednesday Morning, Biden delivered a major speech at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) underscoring the importance of the United States-Kenya relations promising increased US investments in Kenya if the reform agenda is concluded.
In his speech, the Vice President discussed Kenya’s great promise and the need to work together to deal with regional challenges.
On Thursday, June 10th about mid-day, the Biden’s will depart Kenya from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport en route to South Africa where he was scheduled to meet with South African Deputy President Motlanthe, South African Minister of International Relations Nkoana-Mashabane, and other world leaders in attendance at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.
On Friday morning Biden will attend a reception with South African leaders where he is expected to deliver initial remarks about the US-SA international relations.
In the afternoon, the Vice President and Dr. Biden will represent the United States at the opening ceremonies of the 2010 FIFA World Cup at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg after which he will attend the US Men’s National Team’s first game – USA v. England before returning to the United States.
