A budding Ugandan gospel musician, Judith Babirye Niwo, staged an exciting performance to dozens of Ugandan Christians at Hosmer High School auditorium in Watertown, Massachusetts, USA.
Judith , entertained fans with moving reggae, root and culture style gospel hits done in her native Luganda. The spirit filled melodies occasionally moved crowds to their feet as they gyrated in tune with the lyrics.
”This music is good man! I wish she had done some of this reggae gospel in English or Swahili!” exclaimed Michael Zhuwao, an AjabuMedia photojournalist originally from Zimbabwe. He could not help dancing as he took pictures of the event. ”She can sell this music to a lot of people from Africa,” Mr. Zhuwao added excitedly.
Judith hails from Kampala, Uganda and has been in the US since March 4th on a tour to promote her new CD, titled NINDIRIRA (I am Waiting). The Word Thru Music Production and Entertainment Company reproduced the CD for distribution. It is a Ugandan owned company based in Waltham, Massachusetts.
Prior to the main performance, Sister Harriet and Sister Kawaala of Healing outreach ministries , performed a couple of curtain raiser songs that warmed up the worshippers beforeJudith took the stage. Harriet introduced Judith to the audience amid great expectation.
Judith stepped on stage in style, dressed in a beautiful bright blue dress and a white throw-over her shoulders. She immediately began to work out the crowds backed by a well-coordinated band and back up singers. “This is great music,” confided an ecstatic fan, Mary Kabuga, to AjabuAfrica.com. “We would like to see more of her performances here in America,” she added.

Sylvia Kivumbi, another Ugandan fan present told AjabuAfrica.com that she was so proud of Judith to have succeeded in bringing her music closer to Africans in America. “She has done a great job,” said Sylvia.
During break, Judith advised the audience to always be prayerful. “At the end of the day, we are all flesh and bone. God cares about you regardless of who you are,” Judith said. “No matter what happens, carry everything to God in prayer,” she added, before embarking on another hit song.
As the event came to an end, Mr. James Kalungi, the Director of Word Thru Music Production and Entertainent Inc, told AjabuAfrica.com that it was a new turn for African Christian music. “It has been a very good time tonight. The music has uplifted the spirit of God. I hope this continues,” the producer added.
Judith Babirye will travel to perform in several more states here in the US before returning to Uganda in a few months. She will officially launch the new hot CD in Africa.
