Valentines Day Brings Love Alive in Kenya

NAIROBI Kenya- JANUARY 14- Business was at its highest during the Valentines season in Mombasa with florists, supermarkets and bookshops selling fresh bouquets, artificial flowers, romantic cards and chocolates among other gifts considered to express affection to the loved ones.
Love was obviously in the air at the Coastal town of Kenya as local and foreign lovers from across the world toured Mombasa to celebrate romance.
Mombasa, considered the epitome of romantic get-way with its sun-kissed white sand beaches, mouth watering coastal cuisine, hospitable people and world class hotels has become the ultimate destination for lovers during romance season.
Florists and businessmen in Nairobi and Mombasa tourist resort centers recorded booming business, cashing in on the sale of red roses and fresh cut flowers.
Most cloth dealers have displayed red T-shirts and skirts which are selling like hot cakes.
Florist in Mombasa confirmed to have received numerous orders for fresh flowers to be delivered at various destinations tomorrow.
City bookshop proprietors have come up with new marketing strategies where a table is set outside the shop specifically to cater for the desires of lovers.
Gifts wrapped in red satins and flowers, a variety of romantic cards and gifts ready to melt the recipient’s heart have been strategically been displayed to attract those in the mood for love tomorrow.
Restaurants and entertainment clubs along beach hotels offered special discounts for couples to celebrate love with music and candle-lit dinners to win over the hearts of reluctant lovers, or celebrate and finally seal the approval of those already won over.
Shops selling lingerie have on their display windows sheer red under-garments for the women who will be celebrating love, while wine and spirit shops are also reportedly stocking on special drinks and concoctions to top up the celebrations.
At the Likoni ferry crossing, hawkers who have been chased away from the central business district (CBD) have thronged the site and are selling cheap artificial roses at Ksh. 50 for lower income lovers to enable them join the love wagon.
At Jeans R US shop, the proprietors have brought appropriate gear for men during valentine, such as red linen shirts, T-shirts, and under-wear.
Mombasa residents revealed varied opinion about the day, with some confessing to celebrate the day with their loved ones while others said they were not keen.
The youth could be seen strolling in and out of bookshops looking for suitable cards and gifts to present to their loved ones tomorrow.
For the heartbroken and those yet to ensnare a lover, Saturday February 14 was definitely be a lonely day, but hopefully the rest of the year shall bring good tidings lives.
Others have however rubbished the celebration of love saying such gestures should happen throughout the year and not just for a single day
